Who are "we"?
In this Privacy Policy, all references to "we",
"us", "our", "ANZ" and "the Bank" include all companies
in the ANZ National Bank Group. Your personal information
may be accessed and used by any of us for the purposes
referred to below.
How we use your information
We do not sell, publish or give away your information. Information about you provided to us can be used by any of us and our suppliers to carry out our business. In certain circumstances, we may be obliged to disclose information to law enforcement or other government officials. For example, in connection with an investigation of fraud or any other activity that is illegal, or that may expose us to legal liability.
We make every effort to keep your personal details up to date. You may at any time check the information we hold by calling 0800 ANZ 2 YOU (0800 269 296), or by making an enquiry to your nearest branch. You may also update your details through our branches, over the telephone, or in the future - some details will be able to be updated through our website.
How we use e-mail
We may from time to time contact you by e-mail about operational matters on your accounts. We will not divulge personal account information through Internet e-mail. Internet e-mail is not secure; Internet Service Providers or others could monitor your e-mails.
Do not send personal account information in any Internet e-mail correspondence with the Bank. For your security, we do not accept instructions for the operation of your accounts by Internet e-mail. We may keep details of any exchange of e-mails between us, as we do for traditional correspondence.
We do not use or tolerate ‘Spam’ (unsolicited commercial e-mail). We only use e-mail for marketing purposes with your consent. We may from time to time offer you a chance to opt-in to receive certain information and updates from us. You may at any time opt-out from all or some types of information through this channel. You can amend your details by returning the opt-out e-mail.
You may also call 0800 ANZ 2 YOU (0800 269 296) to ask us to remove your e-mail address completely from your customer record if you do not wish us to e-mail you at all, even for operational matters relating to your accounts with us.
Cookies
A cookie is a small data file that the website sends to your browser, which may then store it on your system for later retrieval by our site. Cookies track your movements through different websites; they do not record any other personal information about you. Cookies are widely used on websites to help with navigation and to help personalise your experience when you visit a website. You can also obtain more information on the Internet, for example by visiting www.microsoft.com or www.netscape.com.
We may use ‘cookies’ to provide you with access to tailored information and services from our website, and to serve you better when you return to it.
Session cookies exist in your PC memory only and are used by the ANZ Direct Online site to ensure that you are able to access various applications without having to re-input your User Name and Password. These session cookies are only valid for a defined period of time and if you log out of the system or close down your browser, the session cookie is immediately invalidated.
What you can do to ensure your privacy
The Internet is not a secure environment. Only provide personal information within a secure environment. This means both your browser and the site must support appropriate security. You should be able to tell whether a site is secure through a symbol displayed on your browser; for example, Microsoft Internet Explorer displays a padlock at the bottom of the screen to indicate this.
ANZ Direct Online, and any other areas where you may be asked to provide confidential information, uses 128-bit encryption technology to help prevent unauthorised access. To find out more about encryption and security, see About Security.
To take advantage of this level of security and to use ANZ Direct Online, you need Microsoft Internet Explorer 7.0 or later, or Mozilla Firefox 3.5 or later. If you do not have a browser with this capability, you will need to upgrade before you can use ANZ Direct Online or any other functions that require us to identify you, or allow you to access your personal information. You can download the latest browsers from the Microsoft website.
The most important thing for you to remember is to never let anyone else know your password or Personal Identification Number (PIN). Bank employees will never ask for your password or PIN, and you should never enter these on any website except the Bank’s.
